Medications in the Perinatal Period

​It is important that women get help for mental health concerns during the perinatal period.  If you are taking medication for your mental health and learn that you are pregnant, do not abruptly discontinue medication.  You need to weigh the risks of medication against the risks of untreated symptoms.  Women with recurrent episodes of mental health concerns are at high risk for relapse.  Talk with your prescribing physician about the medication you are taking and about the possible risks that your untreated symptoms may pose to your pregnancy.  ​
